Trowbridge's Restaurant
Trowbridge’s Restaurant has been in the heart of Florence, Alabama for 101 years! 101 YEARS y’all! That’s incredible. When you walk into the restaurant, you’re taken right back in time. It made me extremely happy to see that they kept the restaurant as is and didn’t opt to modernize. It’s so charming. If you plan on eating in, you need to be prepared to wait for a table. I didn’t mind waiting and we were rewarded by our patience because it didn’t take long for us to get into a booth.
Someone couldn’t wait for the food so his starter was the chocolate milkshake. I don’t blame him at all - it was pretty delicious. I saw that they also had malted shakes if you’re into that! I don’t believe I’ve ever ordered a malted milkshake. I should have tried one just for kicks. Maybe one day I’ll get one!
Our daughter ordered a chicken salad sandwich but wouldn’t wait for me to take a picture of it. Ugh kids. I can only report that she said it was good. It was simple - toasted white bread with shredded chicken and mayo over some lettuce that she ended up taking off. Nick’s tuna salad sandwich was the same. Toasted white bread with tuna and mayo over a bit of lettuce. It was simple and tasted like our grandmama made it.
I ordered the BLT because I am a little obsessed with them. What’s better than bacon, lettuce, and tomato in between some toasted bread slathered with good mayo? But unfortunately, if you order this sandwich know that they make it with the microwaveable bacon. It was thin and had that characteristic micro bacon texture. I mean it’s still good because it’s bacon but I thought it would be skillet cooked bacon.
Going to be honest here. This is why I wanted to come! To try their Orange Pineapple Ice Cream. It’s their specialty and you can tell. It was so delicious - I think I found my new favorite flavor. I thought that it would be sherbet but I was so happy to be wrong. It was YUMMY ice cream. I shared this with Nick but now I kinda wish I ordered my own. No big deal tho - they’ve been around forever so I expect they’ll still be there when we make it back up to Florence!
Looking into Trowbridge’s, I saw that they make some great pimento cheese! So be sure to try it when you go. They’ll give you samples if you ask for them. Oh and I can’t forget the Egg and Olive sandwiches - egg salad with green olives mixed in. I heard it’s good too so I either need to try it at Trowbridge’s or make some myself!
Until next time -
Nick and Jenny
